Getting to Malapascua is easier than you think! Just follow these steps:
Step 1: Fly to Cebu CityCebu, the capital of the Visayas, is the best-connected city in southern Philippines. It has an international and domestic airport, and a seaport with ferries arriving from many destinations. If you're already in the Philippines, check for domestic flights or ferries to Cebu from your location. If you're flying into the country, consider landing directly in Cebu International Airport. Direct Flights to Cebu:
From Manila: Zest Airways, Air Philippines, Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific
From Hong Kong: Cathay Pacific, Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific
From Bangkok: Philippine Airlines, Air Asia, Cebu Pacific
From Kuala Lumpur: Air Asia, Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific
From Singapore: SilkAir, Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific
Step 2: Travel from Cebu City to Maya PortTo reach Malapascua, you’ll first travel to Maya, a small town on the northern tip of Cebu Island. From Maya, boats cross to Malapascua regularly. You have two main options, depending on your budget and comfort preferences: Option 1: Private Transfer (Most Comfortable)We can arrange a private car to pick you up from anywhere in Cebu (including the airport, hotel, or ferry port). The car will take you directly to Maya Port, where a private boat will be waiting to take you to Malapascua—either to the dive center or directly to your beachfront accommodation. You can also book just the car or just the boat. Ask us for a quote for private transfers.
Option 2: Public Bus or Van (Budget-Friendly)
From Mactan Airport or Cebu City, take a white metered taxi (avoid the yellow ones—they’re more expensive) to the North Bus Terminal.
From there, choose between:
Bus (more comfortable with space for luggage): Recommended: Ceres Bus Liner Duration: 4.5 to 5 hours | Fare: ~₱350
Van (faster, fewer stops, but more cramped): Same price, located to the right as you enter the terminal.
Both options will drop you at Maya Port, the last stop.
Step 3: Boat from Maya Port to MalapascuaFrom Maya Port, catch a traditional outrigger boat (banca) to Malapascua. Boats run daily from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, usually every 30 minutes.
Fare: ₱200 per person (one way)
Some boats wait for a minimum number of passengers before departing.
In low season (June to October), the last public boat may leave as early as 4:00 PM. If you arrive late:
You can wait to share a private boat with other travelers
Or spend the night in Maya and catch the first boat the next morning
